Introduced from France, 'Marseilles' is a delightful fig that was brought over to the US by Thomas Jefferson and is rumored to have been his favorite fig.
'Marseilles' has large fruits with bright yellow skin and deep pink flesh. The flavor of each fig is exceptionally sweet.
The first figs ripen early in the season, with harvests for a 6-week period in early fall.
Recommended for Zones 6-10, this fig does well in the warm winters of the south, but it will need some winter protection in colder climates.
It produces on new wood, so the tree can be pruned back to maintain its shape in early spring. Its unassuming green-yellow colored fruit keeps the birds from noticing the fruit before you do.
It can be grown in a container or in the ground and is an excellent variety for those who wish to create an espalier trained tree since it fruits on new wood and responds well to pruning.
Plant Format: Currently growing in a 1 gallon pot...plant will be shipped without a pot, but with soil & root ball intact (NOT bareroot), to make for an easy transplant with minimal transplant shock.
