The 'Chicago Hardy' is one of the most prolific figs to grow in colder areas of the northern U.S, but can also be grown in warmer regions up to hardiness Zone 10.
The late summer/early fall fruits are born on the new canes that grow during the summer. A plant with 4 new stem growths can produce up to 150 purplish brown figs. The figs are of excellent flavor.
'Chicago Hardy' seldom requires any winter protection, in most climates (zones 6 and above), past it's 3rd year of growth. It is stem hardy to 10 degrees F & root hardy to -20 degrees F!
In the event of an extremely hard freeze, it is common for the stems die back to the ground, only to recover & send out vigorous new growth from it's base once freezing temps have passed!
Excellent fig for beginning/new fig growers due to low maintenance.
