Euro Elderberry - ‘Black Tower’

Sambucus nigra ‘Black Tower’ is one of the most beautiful & unique Elderberry plants that exist today.
It produces edible black fruits that ripen in early fall and are preceded by showy, extremely fragrant pink, red, and white flowers in late spring-early summer.

This is our absolute favorite variety for making elderflower cordial- the flavor is absolutely divine.

Plant a few of these by the entrance to your house for a conversation piece and a “yard freshener” :) The smell of the flowers is about as good as it gets.

The plant itself grows only 3-4 feet wide and 8-12 feet tall, in a columnar format, which makes it an excellent specimen for tight spaces, like up against a house or on the edge of a walkway.

Super sturdy stems, not prone to wind damage like flimsier showy varieties such as ‘Black Lace’. Foliage starts our bright green in spring and turns to a dark purple as the season draws on. See the photos for more.

This plant can be planted anytime fall-spring in growing zones 3-9. It can tolerate temps from -30F - 110 F. In warmer zones, plant in partial shade. In other areas, full sun, partial shade, and shade are all acceptable. Not picky on soil type. Extremely low maintenance plant. Partially self-fertile…will produce berries by itself but will produce more when planted with another European Elderberry variety (such as ‘Marge’, ‘Samyl’, ‘Black Beauty’, ‘Black Lace’, Serenade, etc…check our store or message us for more info on cross-pollinators that may be available)
