Black American Elderberry - 'Adams'

'Adams' elderberry is a well-proven & time-tested selection from upstate New York that puts on wide clusters of creamy white flowers in spring that develop into bountiful bunches of tender, deep purple berries in late summer that can be used in syrups, jams, jellies, pies, and wines.

An excellent pollinator to 'Johns' but will pollinate most other American elderberry varieties as well!

*Plant Specifications*

-Plant Format: +/- 1 Yr Old Starter Plant in 3.5" Pot, Well-rooted -Self-Fertile: Partially self-fertile...heavier yields will occur when planted within 50 feet of another variety -Soil: Any, but does best in soils rich w/ organic matter that are well-draining -Sun: Full sun is best, but will also grow in both partial shade & shaded conditions -Years to Fruit: 1 to 2 -Best Time to Plant: Fall, Winter, and early Spring are best times to plant. Summer planting is also an option as long as plant can get watered daily. Fall & Winter planting will yield best results as roots will continue to grow below ground, even while plant is "dormant" above ground. Regardless of time of year, mulch well to protect young roots.

**Please Note: Best time to order and plant is between 10/15 - 3/15 of each year while plants are dormant (or going into dormancy).
During that time plants may either be losing their leaves (entering dormancy) or be shipped without leaves (dormant). This is normal and be advised that the plant is not dead- but dormant, which is the most ideal time to both ship & plant them as plants don't go through the typical shock experienced during Spring & Summer shipping.
We can ship during spring and summer (3/16 - 10/14) but please be advised that your plant will likely incur damage to the leaves during transit. If you plant it, it will begin growing fine again within a month or two. We DO NOT replace plants that arrived damaged that are shipped during this timeframe!
