Rubus leucodermis aka 'Blackcap Raspberry' aka super-ultra delicious :)
Also called whitebark raspberry, blackcap raspberry or blue raspberry, it is native to western North America, from Alaska south as far as California, Arizona, New Mexico, and parts of Mexico. Rubus leucodermis is closely related to the eastern black raspberry Rubus occidentalis and, as a result, will grow pretty much anywhere in the US.
The Black Raspberry is much stronger in flavor than both the red or golden varietals and are of good firmness. The juice of black raspberries has an extremely dark pigment & they have some of the highest antioxidant properties of all berries. As a result, they are the subject of numerous health benefits studies.
Although best results are achieved in full sun, it grows just fine in a partially-shaded environment, as well. Highly drought-tolerant and disease-resistant once established. The plant grows anywhere from 3 ft - 6 ft tall and has an erect stature with beefy canes which don't require trellissing- although providing some sort of support is recommended to support heavy fruit load.
Recommended for zones 4-9. Does great at high elevations also!
